more rock, less angst
Certainly I never got the WISE Hall dancing while reading my poetry there in the Living Closet days... as for getting hand-fed junk food from topless women, this is a recent development in my musical career I must look into building on.

man, the recording I made is pretty useless (a good reflection of the stage mix -- monitors? who needs monitors for a film screening?) but it does a great job of documenting the screams from bikefreaks surprised by Peaches and Nine Inch Nails (gee whiz, sounds like the whole hall is singing along to the chorus from closer.)

Clearly the right question to be asking... in reflection of our visiting contingent from Oregon, these were that most American of junk food, donuts, direct from Portland's own Voodoo Donuts! Hopefully soon to be serenaded by Planks at midnight, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

Even better, they were vegan donuts in the shape of the Olympic rings. Heh.

Hey, re: that other thread about trying to find a venue in Seattle, would you and the Planks be interested in opening for a comedy show? It's at Chop Suey on Wednesdays. They just won a Genius Award from The Stranger, so it's a pretty well-regarded event. Kevin, who was one of the other young bearded dudes at the wedding and is one of the people who puts it together, said they would love that.. Also Nait knows a woman who promotes events at the Jewelbox theater in the Rendezvous, which is a smaller space than Chop Suey.

It's a general "Hell yes!" but a specific "in such circumstances as we are in Seattle on a Wednesday" -- no long weekend is that long 8) Due to my unusual circumstances I could make such a show but since most other Planks work 9-5 M-F, it might have to be my dazzling solo act.

They just won a Genius Award from The Stranger, so it's a pretty well-regarded event.

I am more than willing to lap up whatever the Stranger sets in front of me. Picking up a copy is literally the first thing I do upon emerging from a Greyhound (sometimes just to turn around and get back in the bus for the next wing of the trip, having secured some solid reading material at last!)

Nait knows a woman who promotes events at the Jewelbox theater in the Rendezvous, which is a smaller space than Chop Suey.

Considering the scope and extent of our Seattle following, the size of the venue is not a major concern -- anywhere that will have us, up to and including someone's living room, is just lovely 8)

re: that other thread about trying to find a venue in Seattle

Let me just go address that... it's great to learn about the shocking depth of my hitherto unplumbed Seattle resources, but all the same, the immediate concern is for a particular fast-approaching Monday night 8)

The jewelbox is such a cute venue! I went to a Jonathan Coulton show there once. The attached bar makes a very nice martini too.

In the unlikely event of them wanting us on a day I can actually show up in Seattle for (Monday nights? Hah.) I'm SO there.

I don't know if there is anything more rock than that, save of course snorting mountains of cocaine off of stripper tits. But that's so trite and clichéd! How are we tortured artists to make unique creative statements abusing the same tired substances on the tediously overplayed body parts expected? That party rocks itself, no input from the user needed... and where's the fun in that!

I don't know how feasible (enjoying) canoeing in the rain is, but if we're on the edge of a system, I can certainly make myself available other, dryer days. I can swing all of Oct 1-4 providing I can move on to musical obligations by 7 pm ish. (Or, I can just get wet on Wednesday 8)

dear rowan,

how are the planks getting to portland? are they stopping in seattle on their way down? or way back up?

okay, what I am really asking is if there are ways we can coordinate carpooling.

cordially,

ashley

The Plan is: to depart in our rented van Friday afternoon sometime after 4 with an aim toward ploughing straight through to Portland and arriving in time to play at the donut-eating contest at Voodoo Donuts at midnight.

The trip back does involve a stop in Seattle, to play music somewhere yet to be determined.

okay, what I am really asking is if there are ways we can coordinate carpooling.

Unclear: the rented van sits 7, or which 5 seats have been confidently spoken for and of which 2 remain in a state of some limbo. Most likely there will be one unuseful seat free... if this changes or is resolved soon, I can keep you posted.

Chris thinks he may not make it, and I intend to go.

I might have plan B, but would you please keep me updated on that seat's status anyway?

You betcha. Things are looking pretty confirmedly at 6 right now, but I should have a firmer idea after practice tonight. Would be thrilled to have you along!
